Here We Go

Here we go. I’m sitting on the train in the Toledo Station waiting to leave. I’m still nervous but I’m also pretty excited. About to leave for Chicago to hang out with my great friend Phil for a few days. I’m planning on visiting Millennium Park when I get there, and then probably just wander around for a few hours until he gets out class. And here we go, the train is taking off, slow steady, bumpy. Goodbye mom, goodbye Toledo, goodbye Emerald Avenue.

Wasn’t it a great feeling to finally get to sit down on your seat on the train? Time to just go. I’m disappointed in myself that I didn’t get there in time to shake your hand and say adieu, but I was there to see the train pull away, for what it’s worth. Great photo, you’ll get to see a whole lot of little shacks and run down buildings along the railroad.

(Yes, I’m a train geek) As I got back in my car, my scanner crackled with the voice of the engineer, “Amtrak 49, leaving Toledo Station.” Off you go.

Roger’s right – there’s no feeling quite like the start of a train trip. When you stow your stuff, sit down and try to get comfortable, then the huge machine you’re sitting starts moving and you know you couldn’t leave if you wanted to – it’s taking you with it, wherever it’s going.
