Hi Grace, thanks for reading! Hopefully when you do winterim there will be a group going, it might be more fun with company along. But I do recommend this, I'm having so much fun and there is so much to see in the country. San Francisco is awesome!

I’m Grace and I am reading your blog. It is very well written. It has tons of details and it feels like I could be in your place. The photography is beautiful and helps with the story. When I do Winterim I might consider this if possible.

Hi, my name is Ethan and I'm going to follow you on your journey. I’ve been reading your blog and really like how you just tell every little detail about your trip. I would like to know if you go to New Orleans because if you do you have to go to the voodoo shop and try beignets, they are so good, especially with coffee. And don’t forget to try crawfish, mmmmmm. So if you do, I’ll be reading.

Thanks Mikey, Rufus was so amazing. The guy can shred, no doubt. His opening act however, was completely put to shame by you. Girl could hardly hold the guitar let alone play it.

And Roger, just give me a date and I'll no doubt join.

Elliot, I am so impressed with the way you are taking this trip full on and getting everything that you can out of it. Someday, Rollie and I are going to do an Amtrekkin' Alumni Edition. You better come along when we do. :)

I looooove the recent picture you uploaded of the guy standing on the bridge. And the one of the guy in the market with the fish. Everyone looks so happy in it! Great job dude, can't believe you saw Rufus Wainwright

You know, Fritz, when I first started reading your comment I thought you were serious about trying to cram more in... because I'm really trying. Each city has so much to offer and I really haven't been able to experience each to the extent I wish to. I will admit that yesterday was a pretty fulfilling day, but if I only had more time...

That is amazing! I wish I was there, especially for Rufus Wainwright. And on another note, I agree about sleeping on Amtrak. I even found it hard to sleep when I had a bed. Best of luck with the rest of your trip, and I'll be following!

Elliot, I'm wondering if you might find a way to cram a little bit more into one day. I think if you think hard about it, you'll be able to come up with some aspect of life that you didn't experience. But for now, let's think: travel, a movie, sunrise, the Dakota badlands, sharing family tales with strangers, reading, idle conversation, taking pictures, writing, sudden weather change, the shocking bright splendor of unexpected snow, improvised wandering in a new city, an open-air market, a local bookstore, the inexplicable brilliance of Michelangelo, and then, as a nice topper, the incredible voice of Rufus Wainwright. Well done, Elliot.

"I’d wager that I got at least five good hours of light, heavily interrupted sleep." Impressive. Those seats, so seemingly comfortable, but, yet no. Not so much. And just when you get to sleep, someone bumps you, slams the door or otherwise jars you awake.

Sounds like the Empire Builder was quite relaxing, and the snow! Oh, the snow & the mountains. The weather forecast is calling for more snow in the Cascades, which you'll be going through tomorrow on the Coast Starlight. Some truly beautiful scenery awaits you on that train.

The market is fun, I could (and did) hang out there for quite a while. I commend you for getting out and experiencing the cities -- what great memories you will always have. Isn't there something liberating about deciding what you want to go and do, or see, and not having to fit into someone else's plans?

"I decided I was doing this again." I think you now can understand why I've done it twice, once with MV and once on my own. And, yes, oh yes, I am still anxious to go amtrekkin' again.
